1. Your privacy matters

Hi, we’re Teakie Inc. (“Teakie”) and welcome to our Privacy Policy (“policy”).

Teakie’s mission is to empower you to do work you love. Being passionate creators ourselves, we’re here provide you with tools and resources to help you build and grow your brand online. Central to this mission is our commitment to protecting your information and your privacy.

This policy sets out how we handle your information across all of our businesses (Teakie.com, its sub-domains, any related sites and services) (the “Sites”). Please take a few moments to read this policy because it is intended to explain our practices regarding the collection, use, disclosure and protection of information that apply to our Service in addition to how you can control the collection and use of your information.

When we say “we”, “us” or “Teakie” it’s because we’re referring to Teakie Inc. and the team that runs it. When we say “policy” we’re talking about this Privacy Policy. When we say “User Terms” we’re talking about the rules for using each of the sites. Capitalized terms in this policy that are not defined have meaning given to them in our Terms of Service.

By using any of our Sites, you consent to our use of your data under to this policy. If you do not agree with any part of this policy, you may not access the Site or use our services.

2. Types of personal information collected

To use Teakie, you may be required to provide personally identifiable information including your name, email address, password, payment details and other pieces of information.

3.  How we collect personal information about you

We collect personal information when you voluntarily provide it to us, automatically as you navigate through the Sites or when you use services associated with the Sites. When you provide this information to us, you’re consenting to us collecting and using that information in line with this policy and Terms of Service. If you choose not to provide this information, we may not be able to provide certain services to you.

4. Information we collect from third-parties

We may automatically collect information about you from third-party services (i.e.: email service provider, payment processor, etc.), cookies and other tracking technologies.As always, we are committed to protecting your personal information and it is generally used for the purpose of improving your experience on our Sites.

5. How do we use personal information

We may use your personal information in order for us to operate the sites, improve our user experience and communicate directly with you. For instance, we may communicate with you by email to do things like notify you of any changes to our Site, send you promotional messages, discounts or information about products and services which we feel may interest you, and more (but don’t worry, we won’t ever send you spam!). You may opt-out of our mailing list at any time, except for Service-Related emails (ie: account approval, billing, etc.).

6. Inviting a friend to use our service

If you choose to invite a friend to use our Service, we will ask for that person’s email address and automatically send an email invitation to the invitee. When we invite your friends, we may include your information to let them know that you’re the one extending the invite!

7. When may we disclose your personal information?

We value your privacy and will only share your information under certain circumstances for the purpose of providing the Service to you. To protect your information, we take care where possible to work with business partners who we believe maintain an acceptable standard of data security compliance. Examples of such circumstances may include:

i) Subcontractors and service providers who assist us in operating the Site  (ie: email providers, server providers, payment processors, etc.)

ii) Our professional advisors (i.e.: lawyers, accountants, advisors etc)

iii) Regulators and government authorities in connection with compliance procedures and obligations

iv) A purchaser or prospective purchaser of all or part of our assets or our business, and their professional advisors, in connection with the purchase

v) Third party partners who provide co-branded products, content, services or promotions that we think you may enjoy

8. Instances where we are required to share your personal information

Teakie may need to disclose personal information where required to do so by law or subpoena or if we reasonably believe that such action is necessary to comply with the law, enforce our Terms of Service, or to protect the rights, property and personal safety of Teakie, our Users and others in our global community.

9. How do we store your personal information?

We store personal information on secure servers that are managed by our service providers. We do not keep hard copies of your information anywhere.

10. How can you access your personal information?

You can access some of the information that we collect about you by logging in to your account. You may close the account you have with us for any of our Sites at any time.

Your account

You may, of course, decide not to submit personally identifiable information through the Service, in which case, we may not be able to provide certain services to you. You may update your account information at any time by logging in to your account and adjusting your settings.

User content

Following termination or deactivation of your user account, Teakie may retain your profile information and User Content for a commercially reasonable amount of time for business purposes. Teakie may also retain and continue to use all information (including User Content) for an indefinite period after termination or deactivation of your User account.

Email lists and subscriptions

Where we have your consent to do so (e.g if you have purchased one of our products, subscribed to one of our e-mail lists or otherwise indicated that you’re interested in receiving offers or information from us), we may send you marketing communications about products and services that we feel may be of interest to you. You can ‘opt-out’ of such communications if you would prefer not to receive them in the future. Our e-mails will generally have an “unsubscribe” option that you can use to opt-out of further communications. Please follow the instructions in the email. This option may not be available for important operational and service-based emails concerning things like your purchases, user terms, important updates and more. By using our Sites you also agree that we do not need to include opt-out facilities in those messages.

Cookies

When you visit our Sites, there’s certain information that’s automatically recorded to customize and improve your user experience as well as for other business reasons. If you’re logged into your account some of this information could be associated with your account. You can opt out of the use of cookies by changing your browser settings to accept all cookies, be notified when a cookie is set, or reject all cookies. If you reject cookies, some parts of our Site may not work properly.

12. Third-party services

To customize your experience on the Site and to simplify the registration process, we provide you with the opportunity to access or interact with third-party services, such as Facebook and Twitter. When you connect to the Site through these third-party services, we may share information about you with these third-party service providers and they may share data about you with us. We may also share or permit third-party advertising companies, social media networks or others to collect information about your use of the Site to serve ads based on your use of the Service (i.e.: Facebook). This is generally done through the use of cookies, but not always. We cannot be responsible for the interactions and information shared with these providers.

13. Information may be collected, stored, transferred or processed outside of Canada

Teakie and its third-party partners to whom we disclose information under this policy may perform activities outside of Canada and potentially collect, transfer, store, and process your personal information in other countries. As a result, your information may be subject to the laws of those countries. These laws may not be equivalent to the privacy and data protection laws in Canada.

14. Information you make public or give to others

If you make your personal information available to other people, we can’t control or accept responsibility for the way they will use or manage that information.

15. Information about children

We respect children’s privacy and do not knowingly target or intentionally collect information from children under the age of 13. If you’re under the age of 13, you need the permission of a parent or guardian to browse or buy products on our site. This adult is responsible for all your activities on our site.

To create an account or make a purchase on our site, you must be 18 years of age or older or have the supervision of a parent or guardian. If you are between the ages of 13 to 18 years, you can browse the Sites but will need the supervision of a parent or guardian to open an account or make any purchases. It is the responsibility of parents or guardians to monitor their children’s use of our Sites.

16. Data deletion

It is your right to completely delete any data we have collected on you. Please send an email to care@teakie.com to request deletion of your data. Your continued use of our website will be regarded as acceptance of our practices around privacy and personal information.

17. Your confidentiality and security

Your privacy and security is important to us. We limit the personal information that we collect and the information that we share to what is necessary for you to use or access our Site and Services. However, please be aware that no data transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. We want you to feel confident to use our Site, but we can’t ensure, guarantee or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us.

18. Changes to the Privacy Policy

We may need to update this policy from time to time to reflect the latest legal requirements and changes in our practices and service offerings. When we do amend the policy, the changes will be effective straightaway. We will update the “Effective Date” at the bottom of this policy. We also usually publish information regarding material changes on our Site, or notify you by email but it is your responsibility to check in and make sure you keep up to date with this policy.
